I engage with the spontaneous and unexpected

interplay of pictorial elements using a language of color

and expressive marks.  This process is privileged over image.

And yet ... many years working in and with landscape elements

has built in me a vocabulary of  bottom, middle and top.

These basic elements of the landscape take on their own

expressive life in my work.
